C2: Axial Load
2.1 Elastic Deformation
- Theory - Example - Question 1 - Question 2
2.2 Statically Indeterminate Analysis
- Theory - Example - Question 1 - Question 2
2.3 Thermal Deformation

Chapter 2: Axial Load

Chapter overview

This chapter deals with the deformation of axially loaded members (i.e. loading in normal direction). We’ll be looking at:

  • C2.1 Elastic Deformation - quantifying the degree of deformation
  • C2.2 Statically Indeterminate Analysis - when members are “overly” supported, and standard equations if equilibrium is insufficient
  • C2.3 Thermal Deformation - deformation due to changes in temperature
