Chapter 2: Bending

Chapter overview

In Chapter 4 of Solid Mechanics I, we looked at the bending stress caused by a simple scenario of bending in one-direction.

Here in this chapter, we’ll be covering some advanced topics of bending:

  • C2.1 Unsymmetric Bending - resultant stress caused by bending in two-directions
  • C2.2 Composite Beams - bending stress distribution for a beam with 2 or more materials
  • C2.3 Reinforced Concrete Beams - bending stress in a beam with concrete and steel
  • C2.4 Principal Moments of Inertia - advanced subtopic; only attempt if your lecturer covers this
