In this chapter, we will be covering:

  • C1.1 Normal and Shear Stress - concept of stress, calculation of normal and shear stresses
  • C1.2 Deformation and Strain - concept of deformation, calculation of normal and shear strains
  • C1.3 Mechanical Properties - stress-strain diagram, properties such as Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio and shear modulus

You should be familiar with the topics of equilibrium and internal forces from Statics.
